Client: Sangria Bar & Restaurant
Completion Date: 2008
Scope: Partial Refurbishment
Location: Cornish El Nil, Cairo, Egypt

The refurbishment of the bar/restaurant Sangria, a mainstay of the Cairo dining scene, inspired the designers to come up with resourceful and creative ways to give this spot a fresh look with minimal changes.

Re-cycled old shutters salvaged from junk yards in Old Cairo were used to create the new terrace roof and were also employed in making the new outdoor bar a centerpiece, featuring  a patchwork of the shutters and internal lighting. The hand-made metal barstools and chairs where painted in rich earthy colours that reflect the scheme of the shutters, while colourful throws and appliqués added bursts of colour.  The appliqués were custom-made and designed by Eklego and use traditional hand-woven Bukhara fabric embedded in sleek clear acrylic, mixing old and new.
