This 3-bedroom apartment on the ground floor of a building overlooking the Nile is the new location of the hip Cairiene boutique, Mounaya Gallery. The apartment was converted into a spacious, airy gallery to display the luxurious home accessories, jewelry and fashion accessories from around the Arab world that are housed at Mounaya. Most of the walls were torn down to create an open gallery space. The designers were intent on using local materials, in keeping with the regional provenance of the pieces on display. Grey stone (mile brown) and beige marble (local galala) were used on the walls and floors to create a textured yet neutral backdrop to display the colourful accessories, as well as emphasize the Nile views. Details such as the mosaic boukhara insert in the floor add points of interest and texture.
